Each of our residents is available for sponsorship! Annual sponsorships are an affordable way to support the wellbeing of our residents every month by helping us cover the costs of feed, shelter, veterinary care, and more.

Sponsorships also make great gifts! Give the gift of compassion while helping a rescued animal live the rest of their life in peace and happiness. Simply choose the animal you’d like to sponsor, and fill out the appropriate fields with the recipient’s information.
Magical Creatures is an entirely volunteer-run organization, and we are privileged to have an extraordinarily dedicated team. We rely on a small full-time staff of volunteers who live onsite, as well as a devoted group of local volunteers.
We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities at the sanctuary! Consider joining our team of animal care volunteers who come to the sanctuary once a week to help feed our 85+ residents. We also host regular project days at the sanctuary if you have a busy schedule or are just visiting Big Island. Want to contribute in some other way? Regardless of your skills, there’s always something to help with around the sanctuary!

I began volunteering at the sanctuary about 2 1/2 years ago. The lessons that have accrued over the years include patience, tolerance, generosity, and loving-kindness. When I started, there was only one intern and about 50 animals. I've been involved in daily feeding , specialized care for ailing or injured animals, building troughs, setting up shelters, and assisting in building the volunteers' yurt. Not bad for a gray-haired grandma! In summary, I feel nothing but gratitude for the opportunities presented to me by being involved with Magical Creatures.

My experience here has been nothing short of extraordinary. I feel blessed being able to spend so much time getting to know these truly magical creatures. I focused on animal healthcare, and it was so exciting to learn about the veterinary side, from vaccines to analyzing fecal samples. Helena shared her knowledge with me whenever issues arose. I’m leaving this experience with so much more awareness, consciousness, and appreciation for these wonderful animals. A piece of my heart will forever be with the animals and the sanctuary.
